Equine SunSwitch Installation Guide

Equine SunSwitch is supplied with 5m mains cable and *plug, a mounting bracket and installation instructions.

SunSwitch IP54 can be installed in minutes. Using the bracket provided, heaters should be positioned out of reach and directed onto the area where warmth is required.

Sunswitch IP54 can be installed in stables on walls or ceilings or in yards on wall and rigid fence posts. A suspension kit is available for use with high-roofed buildings. Wherever your SunSwitch is installed, though, please observe the minimum recommended clearances for free air flow around the unit (see diagrams below).

Stables and foaling boxes
One Equine SunSwitch will provide warmth in an area up to 6x4 metres, depending on the type of building, insulation levels and the severity of the weather. For comfort heating in stables and foaling boxes, your Equine SunSwitch should be installed at around 2.5-4m height, and angled downwards at approximately 45°. Experimenting with positioning may be helfpul before the heaters are finally fixed in position. If horses are to be left unattended, they should be at least 2- 2.5m away from the heaters. Like all other electrical appliances it is important that direct accidental contact cannot occur.

typical Equiine SunSwitch installation

Muscle easing
The heater should be angled down at approximately 45° on to the flank of the horse at a distance of approximately 1.5 metres. We recommend the use of our Equine SunSwitch Controller so that the temperature can be set to ay desired level. One controller will control two Equine SunSwitches.

Drying off, and solarium applications
As a minimum, two Equine SunSwitch heaters are recommended, angled down at approximately 45° on to each flank of the horse at a distance of approximately 1.5 metres. Ideally, a third unit should be mounted above the horse, pointing down. Again,we recommend the use of our Equine SunSwitch Controllers:

Rug drying
The nearer the rug is to the heater, the quicker it will dry. However, an optimal distance is 2-3m depending on how the rug is hung, and it should never be less than 1.5m from the heater. N.B. always hang the rug to the side of the heater - never drape it over the top!

If SunSwitch is to be installed outside, as a minimum, a Residual Current Detector and a weatherproof mains socket should be used (if in doubt, consult an electrician).
