Dear Lisa,

I thought you might like to hear how we are getting on with the Deluxe Solarium we bought last year. I use it mainly for my two older horses, both of whom have health problems.

The ex-advanced eventer is 24 years old and has a paralysed oesophagus. He is therefore very difficult to keep weight on and feels the cold. He loves his creature comforts and enjoys having a sun soak under the lamp for an hour or two after which he seems a lot less stiff.

My little old rescue pony is 45 years old and is a bit arthritic and has ringbone on one of his front pasterns. In the past he has had great difficulty getting up and down, but since we have used the lamps on him (they are set up in his stable) and he has been on homeopathic remedies he has not had that problem. Indeed I was watching him roll this weekend and he went right over in both directions, and then sprang back onto his feet, which is not bad for a little old guy! We leave him under the lamps for a couple of hours on the cold wet evenings and he basks in the warmth with a smug look on his face!

My neighbours were very intrigued by the warm glow emanating from his box when we first got the lamps, but they are used to it now, and I must say it is a firm favourite with my farrier. In the winter all the horses are trimmed or shod under the warmth of the lamps. It has definitely helped the little pony to be trimmed as well. He finds it easier to pick up his feet without struggling to keep his balance if he has had a session under the lamp first.
