Why
is SunSwitch heat so comfortable?
SunSwitch heaters emit virtually
all of their heat energy at the short wave, infra-red end of the
electromagnetic spectrum. Which means all of its radiant energy
heats objects (like your horse) and is not wasted heating the
air. This is exactly the same way the sun heats the earth, and
it feels every bit as natural and comfortable. Unlike other types
of radiant heater, hardly any of the heat from your SunSwitch
is aborbed by moisture in the air. In consequence it is much more
efficient as a heat source, and will cost only 8-10 pence per
hour to run.
Are there therapeutic benefits?
Yes! Infra-red heat is used to treat humans
as well as horses, while every pig breeder and poultry farmer
is familiar with the positive effects of infra-red warmth on newly
born and growing piglets and chicks. The main benefits of infra-red
for equine heat therapy are based on increasing blood circulation
through vasodilatory response. This leads to an increased transport
rate of metabolytes and other essential biochemical compounds.
+ THE
SCIENCE BEHIND EQUINE SUNSWITCH
Will SunSwitch frighten
my horse?
SunSwitch IP54 is completely silent and
gives off no fumes or odours. Most horses appreciate the comfort
that they provide. Horses quickly grow to love their SunSwitch,
moving readily towards it as soon as it is turned on.
How long will my SunSwitch
IP54 last?
The enclosure is a tough, powder coated diecast alloy, and the
front is tempered safety glass. Designed for permanent installation
indoors or outdoors in all weathers, it should last for many years.
The element is manufactured by Philips and is rated in this product
for 3000 hours use.
Where do I get a replacement
element?
We supply replacement elements mail order. For further information
please telephone 01424 883344. Please do not use elements purchased elsewhere - they may be the right size, but they could be of the wrong specification.
How safe is it?
Because SunSwitch IP54 has a sealed enclosure,
the fire risks associated with exposed elements and burners are
not present. Like all heaters, SunSwitch heaters get hot - so
they should always be sited out of reach. Your horse cannot get
a sun tan from SunSwitch products - short wavelength infra-red
is as far away from harmful ultra-violet rays as you can get.
How many do I need?
One SunSwitch should provide substantial comfort for a horse.
However, for drying or treating both sides of a horse simultaneously,
two heaters are better than one. We recommend where possible the
use of our VR1 voltage regulators. These allow the heat output
to be adjusted.
Does SunSwitch IP54 give off any light?
Yes. It will glow red for about a minute
but then the light will become much whiter. In fact, SunSwitch
has a very useable light output, which is especially useful in
stables, and for discreet observation of mares in foal or sick
animals.
